HISTORY
ASINI WACHI (c1805-1870c) Also known as Czinitza and Capote Blanc. Believed to have been a son of ASINI Larocque, likely born around 1805 or earlier. Known to have been a half-brother to Nakoda chief Chiniki. Father was mixed French-Cree-Nakoda. Whereas Chiniki's mother was Nakoda, ASINI WACHI's mother was Shuswap. By the time of the massacre of his father's family, ASINI WACHI had apparently already left home and was likely working with the fur trade on the upper Saskatchewan River, apparently at Jasper under Jacques Cardinal and Michel Klein. Was likely in the Bow River Expedition and laid off there- after, becoming a part of the Larocque Band of the ASINI WACHI WI INIWAK. Along with NOSE TAKWANAN roamed west into the Jasper area with a mixed Nakoda-Shuswap-Cree following. He may have visited Fort Union with the Larocque band in 1838 under KAKAKEW Larocque. After the death of KAKAKEW around 1837 and the massacre of the "Snake" or "Snare Indians", an independent offshoot of mixed TEKKAKALT Shuswap/Carrier at Jasper he emerges as the Chief of the survivors. He was fluent in French, English, Shuswap, Nakoda and Cree and worked for years as hunter and interpreter at Jasper,
